Common School Applications
Oval and Field Perimeter: Perimeter netting runs 8 to 12 metres high along property boundaries. It stops cricket balls, footballs and soccer balls from reaching neighbouring properties and roads.
Batting Cages and Cricket Nets: Cricket practice lanes are typically 30 metres long, 4 metres wide and 3.5 metres high. Baseball cages measure 15 metres long, 4 metres wide and 3 metres high. Both allow multiple students to practice simultaneously in dedicated safe areas.

Material Selection for Schools
School netting faces heavy use including multiple sports with different ball types, daily use during PE and sport programs and less careful handling than commercial facilities. Schools must use higher quality netting.
Recommended specifications include UV stabilised polyethylene or nylon with 3mm to 4mm strand thickness. Mesh should be 40mm to 50mm depending on sport. Knotted construction provides strength. Dark green or black colours are less visually intrusive.
Choose mesh size that works for your smallest balls. Prioritise strength for hardest hit balls like cricket and baseball.
Budget Strategies
Schools operate on tight budgets. Staged installation works well. Install highest risk areas first near roads, buildings or neighbours and add sections as budget allows.
Grant opportunities exist through sports facility grants at federal and state levels, local council community grants, parent and citizen fundraising and local business sponsorship.
Quality netting provides long term value. It lasts 10 plus years, reduces insurance claims and premiums, prevents costly property damage and enables sports programs that would otherwise be unsafe. Cheap netting fails quickly and costs more over time.
Installation and Maintenance
Professional installation is recommended for large installations over 50 metres length or 8 metres height, permanent structures requiring engineering, areas needing permits and schools without capable maintenance staff. Smaller practice nets may suit school maintenance teams with appropriate skills.
Schools should implement termly inspections by maintenance staff and annual professional assessment for large installations. Repair damage immediately. Keep documented inspection records because these are important for liability. Allocate budget for repairs and eventual replacement.
